The Institute for Creative Leather Technologies

The Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (ICLT) is a globally recognised research and education centre based at The University of Northampton in the UK. ICLT engages in cross-disciplinary research that responds to the scientific and technological needs of the automotive, fashion, footwear and allied leather industries. The collaboration between Xeros and ICLT began in 2013 when the concept of applying bead technology in leather processing was developed by Xeros and a series of feasibility trials was conducted at ICLT’s research facility to assess the potential of substituting water with polymer beads. Following the success of feasibility studies, Xeros and ICLT continued their partnership over a two-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project to evaluate the environmental and economic advantages of adapting bead technology into tanneries. Xeros has benefited from the specialist knowledge of leather processing provided by ICLT staff and access to world-class pilot tannery facilities and leather-testing equipment in the course of the partnership and both organisations continue to work closely on various research and development programs.
